I read in Bear's notes to the remastered Bear's Choice:

"After the Dead lost control of the Carousel Ballroom in mid-'68 (it then became Bill Graham's Fillmore West), they asked me to return as soundman."

Others would know more about the details than I, but he presumably left (was let go?) sometime after the Rio Nido show on 9-3-67. I'm guessing he returned sometime like mid August, as that's when the SBDs become more common again. Was he there for the Feb and Mar SBDs, or was that someone else taping them?
